If you’re into your beauty products, you probably know how expensive it can get! Skincare, bodycare and makeup products can also contain toxic ingredients and chemicals that slip by quietly in the long, long list of ingredients on the back of the bottle.
The good news is that there are loads of beauty products that you can make at home! Here are the 5 best simple DIY beauty products you can make at home – with none of the toxic ingredients and less of the expense.
Lip Balm

Ingredients:
- 3 tbsp beeswax pellets
- 3 tbsp shea butter
- 4 tbsp coconut oil
- Essential oil (like these ones!)
Method:
- Gently melt the beeswax pellets with the shea butter
- Add the coconut oil and combine
- Stir in 10-20 drops of your favourite essential oil
- Decant into an empty pot or tube and wait until it solidifies!
Body Lotion

Ingredients:
- 100g coconut oil
- 100ml aloe or distilled water
- 1 tbsp beeswax
- 1 tbsp shea butter
- 1 tsp vitamin E
- Essential oil (like these)
Method:
- Place the beeswax, coconut oil, and shea butter in a glass jug or bowl
- Boil a few inches of water in a saucepan. Lower to a simmer and place the jug/bowl in the water
- Stir until melted, then remove from heat
- Decant into another glass or metal bowl and leave to cool
- Slowly add the aloe/distilled water and vitamin E, mixing with an immersion blender or standing blender
- Drop in 10-15 drops of the essential oil(s) of your choice
- Blend until creamy
- Put in a jar, seal with a lid and keep in the fridge. Use within 1 month
Face Mask

Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp plain, natural yogurt
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp turmeric powder
Method:
- Mix ingredients together
- Apply to face, leave for 15 minutes
- Remove with water and follow with your usual skincare routine
Highlighter

Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp beeswax
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp jojoba oil
- 1-2 tsp mica powder (note: make sure to research your supplier to ensure you’re buying ethically sourced mica)
Method:
- Put the beeswax and oils in a glass bowl
- Boil a few inches of water in a saucepan; when boiling, lower to simmer and place the glass bowl inside
- Stir. Once melted, remove from heat and add mica powder (tip: choose a colour equal to or lighter than your skintone)
- Place in a container and leave to set
- Remove with your normal makeup remover and our natural cotton pads
Hair Mask

Ingredients:
- 2 egg yolks
- 2 ripe bananas
- 2-3 tbsp honey
- 100g natural conditioner
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Method:
- Blend ingredients together until smooth and pureed
- Fully coat the hair after shampooing
- Leave for 20-30 minutes, then rinse with cool water (tip: keep your head warm with clingfilm and a towel whilst the mask does its job)
